Album of the year for 2014 & the winner is......

2014 has been an epic year for Australian albums, we saw great debuts from Vance Joy, The Preatures and Chet Faker and an established album from Sia who withdrew herself from the spotlight to promote the album.

Pharrell Williams also hands down produced the international record of 2014 and the best pop album with simply amazing pop moments and one of the biggest hits to date "Happy". The song went global and was one of the most played songs of the year.

However it is time to have a long hard think about what record was up there like Haim back in 2013. It was a tough choice this year but it clearly had to be an Aussie record, so sorry Pharrell your out.

The Preatures album had that wonderful lead in with "Is this How You Feel" which came in at Number 7 in the Best 200 songs of 2013. Vance Joy was the third biggest track of 2013 with that monster smash "Riptide" and Chet Faker has topped album polls from Triple J, to many Blogs and it even picked up the J Award.

That said though, there could be only one winner...

Yes Sia's 6th album is a perfect complete body of work, not only did her fav collaborator Greg Kurstin help produce the record but Diplo also had a hand in the record. The album also spawned Sia's biggest hit to date in "Chandelier" (where will this finish in the 200 best songs of 2014?) and also one of my favourite Sia tracks in years "Free the Animals".

In 2014 Sia also leant her vocals to an Eminem track, an Angel Haze jam, joined up with David Guetta again (2 tracks on his latest Listen disc) and wrote songs (and produced) Kylie's 2014 record, Shakira, Maroon 5 & Cheryl Cole.

Yes Sia had an epic year, also lending her acting, singing, song writtting to the recent Annie musical film. What a year and what an album, giving Sia's July release "1000 Forms of Fear" this years EPIC album of 2014. Well done Sia.
